Gretchen Kelly works in a variety of mediums and styles from her New York studio, with a focus in figurative & botanical paintings on paper. Her background in both fashion & textile design influence her work heavily. This influence is often illustrated in soft layers of detailed fabric adorning many of her figurative studies. Gretchen is inspired by the beauty of what is natural in the world and embellishes with her own personal touches of color, pattern and ornament. She strives to capture the gestures and nuances of fleeting moments which are the details that bring life and beauty to her work. Her paintings exude spontaneity and whimsy while maintaining a sense of simplicity.
